Search for Kerala lottery online and you'll find websites and WhatsApp numbers offering tickets for UPI payment from anywhere in India. Before you pay anyone, here's what you should know.
How Kerala lottery tickets are sold
Kerala State Lotteries is run by the Government of Kerala under the Lotteries (Regulation) Act, 1998. Tickets are printed paper tickets sold through authorized agents and sellers within Kerala. Online sale of Kerala lottery tickets is not authorized by the lottery department.
Lottery rules also differ from state to state. Many states don't allow lotteries at all, and Kerala tickets are meant to be sold only inside Kerala.
Warning signs of a lottery scam
- You're asked to pay by UPI or bank transfer and receive only a photo or PDF of a ticket.
- You're told you've won a lottery you never entered.
- You're asked to pay "tax", "GST" or a "processing fee" before a prize is released.
- The seller claims to be the official lottery department or a government office.
- Promises of guaranteed wins, lucky numbers or "fixed" results.
What you can safely do online
- Check published results, and on this site, the tickets assigned to your mobile number on the results page.
- Follow the weekly draw schedule and prize information.
- Verify any result against the official announcement before you celebrate.
Buying in Kerala
If you're in Kerala, buy from a licensed agent or seller and take the printed ticket in your hand. Check that it's undamaged and the number is clearly printed, then keep it safe until the result is published.
